UC Irvine’s Wise to transfer to USC by The Sports Network

Southern California head coach Kevin O’Neill announced on Friday that all-Big West player Eric Wise will transfer from UC Irvine for his final year of college basketball.

Wise, who played three years at UC Irvine, will be ineligible for the upcoming season, as per NCAA transfer rules, but will be able to play during the 2012-13 campaign.

“We are very excited to have a proven veteran player like Eric join our program,” said O’Neill. “His sit-out year will give him an opportunity to acclimate to our system and prepare him to have a good senior season. He is a good student who did well at UC Irvine and will be in position to graduate from USC.”

Wise averaged 16.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in 20 games for UC Irvine last season.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound forward ranks 11th on UC Irvine’s all-time list in points (1,280), 15th in rebounds (533) and is the 15th player in school history to register 1,000 or more points and 500 or more career rebounds.
