Stover to call it a career by The Sports Network

Former Baltimore Ravens kicker Matt Stover is expected to announce his official retirement at a news conference on Thursday.

According to the Ravens’ website, the team will also make a second announcement involving Stover, who spent 19 seasons kicking in the NFL and is the league’s fourth all-time leading scorer.

Stover started his career with the Cleveland Browns in 1991 after spending the 1990 campaign on injured reserve with the New York Giants. He remained with the franchise when it moved from Cleveland to Baltimore in 1996 and kicked for the Ravens through the 2008 campaign.

The Ravens decided to let Stover go before the 2009 season and he eventually wound up with Indianapolis after Adam Vinatieri was hurt and appeared in 10 games for the Colts, who wound up in the Super Bowl. He did not play in 2010.

Stover compiled 2,004 career points and is the seventh-most accurate kicker in league history with an 83.7 percent field goal percentage. He connected on 471-of-563 field goals and missed just three of 594 point-after attempts.
