South Carolina QB Garcia suspended by The Sports Network

Columbia, SC (Sports Network) – South Carolina starting quarterback Stephen Garcia missed the first day of spring practice while serving a suspension.

Garcia, a fifth-year senior, and sophomore redshirt quarterback Andrew Clifford were both suspended for violating team rules.

Head coach Steve Spurrier didn’t elaborate Tuesday on the reason for their suspensions, but said both will be back next week. Spurrier said corner Victor Hampton missed practice for an academic issue and would return Thursday.

Garcia has started 28 straight games for South Carolina and ranks third all- time in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and attempts for the Gamecocks.

Tuesday marked the first of 15 spring practices for South Carolina.
