Senators captain Alfredsson to undergo back surgery by The Sports Network

Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced that team captain Daniel Alfredsson will undergo back surgery on Friday.

Alfredsson was bothered by lower back pain last season, and was shut down in early February. The 38-year-old Swede finished with 14 goals and 17 assists in 54 games.

“He’s done a lot of rehab,” Murray said. “He felt to continue his career at the level he wants to, it’s the right thing to do. It’s just to relieve a little pressure on a nerve that has taken away some of the strength in his leg and affected his skating and overall game.”
