Pirates place C Snyder on DL, promote Toregas by The Sports Network

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed catcher Chris Snyder on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with lower back pain.

Snyder, who left Wednesday’s 3-2, 12-inning victory in the third after feeling discomfort, is hitting .271 with three home runs and 17 runs batted in over 34 games this season.

To fill the roster spot, the club selected the contract of catcher Wyatt Toregas from Triple-A Indianapolis. He was batting a mere .034 (1-for-29) in 11 games for the minor league club this season.

The 28-year-old appeared in 19 major league contests with the Cleveland Indians during the 2009 campaign and hit .176 with six RBI.
