Hartford, CT (Sports Network) – John W. Lomax III, convicted of killing University of Connecticut football player Jasper Howard in a 2009 stabbing, was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Friday.

Lomax originally was charged with murder in the October 2009 death of Howard, but pleaded no contest earlier this year to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter.

Superior Court Judge Terence A. Sullivan sentenced Lomax on Friday morning.

Howard was stabbed early on the morning of October 18, 2009 after a school- sponsored dance.
