(Sports Network) – Kevin Durant will look to extend his career-best streak of double-doubles to five when he leads the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight versus the Memphis Grizzlies in the OKC.
Durant notched his fourth consecutive double-double performance with 21 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday’s 121-105 victory over the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. Durant’s sidekick, Russell Westbrook, finished with 33 points and 10 assists, and sank all four of his three-point attempts. The Thunder converted a season-high 13 three-pointers, going 13-of-21 from beyond the arc.
Big man Jeff Green had 20 points in the win, marking the fourth time this season that three Thunder players logged 20 or more points in the same game. Oklahoma City is 3-1 when that happens. James Harden posted 14 points off the bench for the Thunder, whose reserves outscored Utah’s by a 33-16 margin.
“We weren’t defending anybody and we clamped down in the second quarter,” said Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks. “I thought our bench did a great job.”
Oklahoma City has won three in a row and 10 of its last 14 games. It is 18-7 as the host this season and leads the Northwest Division by 3 1/2 games over the Jazz. The Durant-Westbrook tandem is currently tied with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade of Miami for the NBA’s highest scoring duo at 51.5 ppg.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will try to get back on course and have lost two in a row since winning five straight and eight of nine games.
In a 93-84 home loss to the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, Sam Young matched a career-high with 22 points and Rudy Gay contributed 18 points and eight boards for Memphis, which had won two straight against LA. Zach Randolph was held to just eight points and 12 rebounds, while Marc Gasol registered 10 points and 12 boards in defeat.
“I thought the Lakers did an outstanding job,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “You have to give them a lot of credit. They kept Zach (Randolph) from getting going. They doubled him continuously.”
The Grizzlies will try to improve on their 11-18 road ledger Tuesday.
The 2010-11 series between Memphis and Oklahoma City is tied at a game apiece, with each club prevailing as the host. The Thunder, however, have won seven of the past 10 meetings in this series, while Memphis is winless in three straight trips to Oklahoma City.
