Mets’ Mejia suffers MCL tear by The Sports Network

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) – Jenrry Mejia, one of the New York Mets’ top prospects, was found to have a complete MCL tear of the right elbow, the team announced Monday.

Surgical treatment has been recommended, although the 21-year-old right-hander is expected to seek a second opinion.

Mejia made five starts for Triple A-Buffalo this season, going 1-2 with a 2.86 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings.

In 2010, he went 0-4 with a 4.62 ERA in 33 games (three starts) with the Mets before suffering a season-ending rhomboid strain of the right shoulder blade.
