Lidstrom wins seventh Norris Trophy by The Sports Network

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom won the 2011 James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is presented to the NHL’s top defenseman.

The native of Sweden has won the award in seven of the last 10 seasons (2001-03, 2006-08, 2011) and tied Doug Harvey for the second most all-time. Bobby Orr sits atop the list with eight.

Lidstrom, 41, was a nominee for the 11th time in the past 13 seasons despite finishing with a minus-rating (-2) for the first time in his career.

The four-time Stanley Cup winner ranked second among all blueliners with 62 points (16G, 46A) in 82 games. He became the oldest defenseman in league history to register a 60-point campaign.

Boston’s Zdeno Chara and Nashville’s Shea Weber were the other finalists.

Duncan Keith of the Chicago Blackhawks won the Norris last season.
