Hurricanes shuffle coaching staff, front office by The Sports Network

The Hurricanes announced Tuesday that former NHL bench boss Dave Lewis and ex-Carolina forward Rod Brind’Amour have been added to Paul Maurice’s coaching staff as assistants for the 2011-12 season.

The 57-year-old Lewis served as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings from 2002-04 and guided the Boston Bruins during the 2006-07 campaign.

Brind’Amour had been the Hurricanes’ director of forwards development, a role he inherited after retiring last June. The 40-year-old, who captained Carolina to the franchise’s only Stanley Cup title in 2006, will continue to work with the team’s prospects in his new position.

The Hurricanes also named Ron Francis, an associate head coach for Carolina since December 2008, director of hockey operations, while adding Tom Rowe to the club’s pro scouting department.
