Former Oklahoma safety Everage drowns by The Sports Network

Former Oklahoma safety Brandon Everage has died after drowning in a Texas river.

Multiple outlets, citing Milam County Sheriff David Greene, reported that the 30-year-old Everage had disappeared under water while swimming with friends in the Little River late Friday.

His body was found by a dive team on Saturday morning, the reports say, and was taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to The Oklahoman.

Everage, who is from Granger, Texas, played for Oklahoma from 2000-03 and was a member of the team that won the 2000 national championship. He finished with 10 interceptions as a Sooner and was a second team All-American in 2002.

In a statement released by the school, longtime Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops called Everage “a favorite in the locker room and a favorite among the coaches.”

“He played football with tremendous passion and had a special spark that inspired everyone,” Stoops said. “We will always have fond memories of him. For now, though, we are deeply saddened for Brandon’s family.”

Last week, senior Oklahoma linebacker Austin Box died after he was found unconscious in a house.
