Dodgers’ Furcal breaks thumb by The Sports Network

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) – Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal suffered a broken left thumb during Monday’s 6-1 win over the Giants.

In the fifth inning, Furcal walked and advanced to second on a single by Jamey Carroll. Furcal then broke the thumb when sliding hands first while stealing third. His thumb came in contact with the knee of Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who was trying to block the bag.

No timetable has been set for his return and the team plans to consult with a hand specialist on Tuesday.
