Kruger gets lucrative contract from Oklahoma by The Sports Network

Norman, OK (Sports Network) – Lon Kruger will sign a seven-year contract worth $16.6 million to be head men’s basketball coach at Oklahoma, the school confirmed Thursday.

Kruger accepted the job last month after a seven-year stint coaching UNLV. His new deal at Oklahoma was approved by the school’s Board of Regents.

He takes over a program that went 14-18 this past season under Jeff Capel, who was fired after five years as head coach.

Kruger, 58, has a career record of 479-304, including a mark of 161-71 over the past seven seasons at UNLV. Prior to that, he coached at Illinois, Florida, Kansas State and Texas-Pan American.

The Runnin’ Rebels had a 24-9 mark this past season, but Kruger’s team lost its first game in the NCAA Tournament to Illinois.
